A little about me:

I was born in South Korea and currently live and work in Los Angeles. I worked as an international shoe designer for 2 decades before returning to make art in 2009. My work consists of painting, sculpture and photography, medium designated by each project.

I make narrative figurative work, and concept-based work that results in abstraction in painting or sculpture, and other media; often an image, or a material shows up, enabling ideas to be exploited and made into an object only I can make. Some projects demand research and take a very long time to make, and others are intuitively made with speed; my life-long drawing practice, and my experience as a fashion designer gave me a voice in which to explore thoughts around psychology, philosophy, and science, hopefully in ways that had not been thought of or seen before.

My real-time portrait painting series titled, “lunch Portraits” (a tribute to Frank Ohara’s Lunch Poems) that started in 2015 – I try to level the stereotypes by mixing the real with imagined background – I like to think it is a platform where I document my community in an organic and spontaneous manner, offering a place of dialogue and warmth in a cold market driven art world.
